1st Annual Arkansas Senior Championship Report

12 players came together September 15-16, 2018 to compete in the first annual Arkansas Senior Championship.  Even though the field was small, the competition was tough.  Several games came down to the wire! We paid prizes for 1600+ and 1599 and below.

Larry Weston took first place with a 4.5/5 score and went home with a $225 prize and the Arkansas Senior Chess Champion title!
Tony Davis came in second place and took home $100.
Dennis Cummings (bottom right) came in 3rd place and took home $50.
Enoch Kawai won 1st place in the 1599 below players and took home $125.  He came all the way from Arizona!  He is a solid player who helps support chess at home.
John Tyler Madsen of Fort Smith came in 2nd place in the Class C prizes and went home with $50.  Stephen Paulson, Alan Myatt and Bruce Garnett tied for 3rd place and will each receive $16.

Thanks to everyone who came out!  This was a fun tournament and the atmosphere was a good mix of relaxation and concentration.  We hope to have a bigger tournament in 2019!  Details and location TBD.
